Program Description

The Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation (TNPF) CE Grant is designed to support Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) members who may face financial barriers to attending TNP conferences. This scholarship covers the conference registration fee and is intended to promote equitable access to high-quality continuing education opportunities.

Grants are limited and awarded based on demonstrated financial need, professional impact, and available funding.

 

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be a current TNP member 
  • Licensure in good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Apply for the TNP Foundation (TNPF) CE Grant
  • Be registered or intend to register for an eligible TNP conference
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Agree to attend the conference if awarded the grant

Note: Receipt of a TNPF CE Grant may be limited to one award per member per calendar year.

 

Submission & Review Process

Applications will be reviewed by TNPF leadership or a designated review committee. A limited number of TNP Foundation (TNPF) CE Grants are available. Scholarships are awarded based on demonstrated financial need, professional impact, eligibility criteria, and available funding.

Applications must be submitted by July 1. All applicants will be notified by July 20.

Scholarship Applicant Requirements

  • Hold a current Texas RN license
  • Be a resident of Texas
  • Applicant must have completed at least 25% of an accredited Masters Nurse Practitioner Program or Post Masters Certificate Nurse Practitioner Program or a Nurse Practitioner who has completed at least 25% of an accredited Doctoral Nursing Program. A letter of verification of current enrollment status must be included from the Program Director, stating whether enrolled part-time or full time in the program.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and
  • Be a regular or student member of Texas Nurse Practitioners
  • Each scholarship shall be a one-time monetary award given directly to the individuals selected 
  • Submit the application prior to the deadline with all required information. 

The Katie Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to provide an annual scholarship to a TNP member who is enrolled in a pediatric nurse practitioner program or enrolled to further pediatric education in Texas

Scholarship Applicant Requirements

  • Hold a current Texas RN license
  • Be a resident of Texas
  • Completed at least 25% of an accredited Masters’ Nurse Practitioner Program who is specializing in pediatrics. A letter of verification of current enrollment status must be included from the Program Director, stating whether enrolled part-time or full-time in the program.

  • Be a student, new graduate, regular or legacy member of Texas Nurse Practitioners
  • Each scholarship shall be a one-time monetary award given directly to the individuals selected 
  • Submit the application prior to the deadline with all required information

Call for Abstracts: Presentations

Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) 2027 Annual Conference Thursday, September 9 – Saturday, September 12, 2027

The Texas Nurse Practitioners (TNP) Education Committee invites submissions for abstracts to present at the TNP 2027 Annual Conference. You may submit for one or more of the following formats:

  1. 3-Hour Workshop (Thursday, September 9)
  2. One-Hour Presentation Session (Friday, September 10 or Saturday, September 11)
  3. Pecha Kucha (20 minutes, 20 slides; Friday or Saturday)

This is an opportunity to share your expertise with advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) and contribute to the advancement of nurse practitioner practice.

Important Reminders

  • All presentations must be free of bias (e.g., no industry or pharmaceutical slides). Slides may require advance review by the TNP Education Committee.
  • Specify the number of minutes addressing Texas Board of Nursing requirements for each objective, including:  
    • O = Opioids
    • J = Jurisprudence
    • E = Ethics
    • PMP = Prescription Monitoring Program
    • G = Geriatrics
    • RX = Pharmacology  

        

Qualifications for these hours can be found on the Texas Board of Nursing website.

 

  • High-quality abstracts may be invited to convert to a poster presentation or to present at the TNP Pharmacology Conference.

Abstract Selection Process

The TNP Education Committee will review all abstracts submitted for workshops, sessions, Pecha Kucha, and poster presentations. Selections will be based on:

  • Relevance of content to the interests of nurse practitioners.
  • Alignment with TNP’s mission, vision, and values (visit www.texasnp.org for details).
  • Speaker qualifications.
  • Integration within the conference curriculum.

Presenters will be notified of acceptance by April 2027. Accepted presenters must submit an abbreviated resume or CV.

Abstract Review Criteria

Abstracts will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance: Topic aligns with TNP’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Focus: Content supports TNP’s priorities, including evidence-based practice, leadership, research, advocacy, and related areas.
  • Quality: Content is precise, comprehensive, current, and applicable to APRN practice.
  • Audience Suitability: Content is appropriate for advanced practice registered nurses.

Speaker Honorarium

  • Workshop Speakers: $500 per workshop.
  • Session Speakers: $300 per session (divided three ways for Pecha Kucha presenters).
  • Speakers may choose to donate their honorarium back to TNP.
  • Speakers wishing to attend the TNP Conference must register separately, as no discounts are provided.

Conducting Research

TNP supports research initiatives by providing opportunities for current members to conduct research online and at TNP Conferences.  

Submission Process

The researcher must submit the form below at least 30 days before their proposed research project starts. Required information includes how the research will be utilized and how the data will be protected. TNP’s Research Committee will review the research request and determine if it is accepted.

Submission Requirements

  • The research must be designed to treat all individuals fairly, and the procedure must be based on fair procedures that will not overburden TNP participants.
  • The researcher must ensure that all participants clearly understand the commitments in the agreement to participate in the study.
  • The researcher must receive formal confirmation from TNP to collect the data.
  • The researcher must provide proof of IRB approval before conducting the research.
  • The research proposal must contain appropriate tools for the research setting.
  • The research reflects quality that is consistent with TNP standards.
  • The research aims to further individual research/project needs, not institutional, organizational, or company initiatives.

Fee

Administrative fees of $100.00 are due upon project approval from the committee and prior to disseminating the survey to the membership. This is for current TNP members, whether done through an online survey or at a TNP meeting. The researcher will be responsible for any additional costs associated with conducting the research. TNP will provide an approval letter to conduct the study for the researcher and invoicing as appropriate.

Permissions

Permission to conduct the research is at the discretion of the TNP Research Taskforce. Coordinating and scheduling research requests and sending out the online link to survey participants are at the discretion of the TNP CEO, so there is no interruption in TNP business activities. A maximum of two emails will be sent to TNP members on behalf of the researcher. Upon approval, TNP will work with the researcher to create a schedule for the research project.

Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation (TNPF) is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.

Specifically, the goals of this Foundation shall be to:

1. Distribute Resources – Provide financial resources that advance the Nurse Practitioner profession, including but not limited to:

    a. providing scholarships for registered nurses who are pursuing further education to become nurse practitioners; 

   b.  providing financial assistance for nurse practitioners pursuing an advanced nursing degree;

   c.  awarding grants to nurse practitioners proposing or engaged in research, that is relevant to advanced    nursing professions; 

   d. awarding grants to community projects promoting and improving access to health care for all Texans; 

   e. serving as a collaborative partner to organizations with similar missions and goals;

   f.  awarding funding, as available, to organizations promoting continuing education that support the nurse practitioner professions; and

   g.  providing short-term, immediate financial assistance to eligible Texas Nurse Practitioner members who are victims of a disaster due to fire, flood, accidents, or other disasters.

2.  Develop Resources – build the financial resources needed to support the advancement of the Nurse Practitioner profession.

3.  Promote Professional Awareness – Promote public awareness of the Nurse Practitioner role. 

4.  Support Foundation Sustainability – Maintain the leadership and systems necessary for long-term growth and success of the Foundation.

5.  Enhance partnerships between the professional association, community partners, and the Foundation.

6.  Engage in any legal activity approved by the board that supports the mission of TNPF.

In alignment with this purpose, TNPF has developed a Research Support Grant program to help fund open access for research conducted by TNP members in peer review journals which is relevant to advanced practice nursing, promotes access to health care for all Texans and/or promotes public awareness of the Nurse Practitioner role. TNP members who wish to apply for a Research Support Grant, must complete an application. 

Requirements include:

  • TNP Member
  • Submit an abstract of research study (approx. 300 words)
  • Personal statement (Max. 200 words. Please introduce yourself and why you chose to pursue this research.)
  • One letter of support (from either advisor or research collaborator)
  • CV
  • Letter of Acceptance from a Journal
  • Description of process and fee associated with providing this study with open access
