The Visionary Award is presented to an individual or entity to recognize programs, projects or research that envisions and or utilizes nurse practitioners as leaders and valuable partners to the healthcare system.
The TNP selects a student for the TNP Student Leadership Award and presents this award at the annual conference. The deadline for nominations is March 31.
Award Criteria
- Excellence in academic performance.
- Demonstrates leadership through a formal or informal leadership role.
- Participated in TNP event(s) including but not limited to attending TNP sponsored conferences, presenting a poster, volunteer room monitor.
- A resident of Texas.
- Currently enrolled in BSN to MSN/DNP or post master doctorate program in Texas or a Nurse Practitioner currently pursuing a degree such as DNP, EdD, PhD, MPH, DPH.
- In good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing and is licensed as a registered nurse.
- Current TNP member.
- Two letters of recommendations from two faculty members or one faculty member and a preceptor.
- Active member of local NP affiliate (if applicable and preferred not required)
- No self-nominations are allowed.
TNP selects a nurse practitioner of the year and is presented at the annual conference.
Award Criteria
• Demonstrates excellence as an NP and as a role model for other nurse practitioners and the nursing profession in general.
• Significant contribution to the improvement of care for individuals, families and/or communities.
• Is creative in his/her approach to nursing care through effective communication and quality of care.
• Volunteers in the community through a variety of ways including general organizations, mission trips, healthcare organizations, community organizations, etc.
• Utilizes current research in practice.
• Recognized to practice as a nurse practitioner in Texas.
• Active member of TNP for at least one year.

Community Impact Awards recognizes the contributions by Nurse Practitioners on the health and wellbeing of their community.
Nomination Criteria
- In good standing with the Texas Board of Nursing and is licensed as a nurse practitioner.
- Active member of TNP member.Community Impact Awards recognizes the contributions by Nurse Practitioner efforts that impact their community through volunteer efforts, innovative approaches to community issues, etc. These initiatives (outside of employment) promotes the NP role within the community.
- No self nominations will be accepted.
TNP is asking for nominations for Preceptor of the Year. TNP Affiliates are encouraged to submit a nominee from their affiliate for consideration. TNP's Nominating Committee will review all submissions and present one Preceptor of the Year Award at the annual conference. The purpose of this award is to recognize a Nurse Practitioner Preceptor who is committed to the excellence of clinical education of Nurse Practitioners through Preceptorship.
Award Criteria
- Demonstrates a commitment to excellence in the clinical education of Nurse Practitioners
- Serve as a role model for other nurse practitioners and the nursing profession in general.
- Active member of a TNP affiliate is strongly encouraged.
- Active member of TNP for at least one year.
- Served as a Preceptor for at least three years.Recognized to practice as a nurse practitioner in Texas.
- No self-nominations are accepted.
Award Criteria
• Full time or part-time faculty, adjunct or instructor for a minimum of 5 years
• DNP or PhD prepared
• Teaching in a Nurse Practitioner program.
• Serves as a role model for creating and sustaining a culture in nursing education that integrates theory and practice
• Demonstrates significant innovation in teaching/learning approaches to promote learner outcomes
• Leads in the promotion and implementation of innovation in teaching/learning approaches in nursing education
• University where employed is a member of TNP’s University Ambassador program.
• Recognized to practice as a nurse practitioner in Texas.
• Active member of TNP for at least one year.
• Two letters of support are required.
• Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Scholarship Applicant Requirements
- Hold a current Texas RN license
- Be a resident of Texas
- Applicant must have completed at least 25% of an accredited Masters Nurse Practitioner Program or Post Masters Certificate Nurse Practitioner Program or a Nurse Practitioner who has completed at least 25% of an accredited Doctoral Nursing Program. A letter of verification of current enrollment status must be included from the Program Director, stating whether enrolled part-time or full time in the program.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and
- Be a regular or student member of Texas Nurse Practitioners
- Each scholarship shall be a one-time monetary award given directly to the individuals selected
- Submit the application prior to the deadline with all required information.
The Katie Russell Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to provide an annual scholarship to a TNP member who is enrolled in a pediatric nurse practitioner program or enrolled to further pediatric education in Texas

POSTER PRESENTER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must register for the conference on (at least) the day you are presenting.
- Must check with your school of nursing for their standards on posters.
- Must email a photo of your poster to bella@texasnp.org for review by the Education Committee prior to the conference.
- Must review the grading rubric which will be shared upon program approval.
- Must put poster up in the morning on the day of presentation and remove it at the end of the day.
All posters that are presented at the Annual Conference are considered for either Best Overall Poster, Best Student Poster and the TNP President’s Award. There is no additional application or nomination process. Posters are judged by the TNP president and members of the Education and Awards committee. The awards will be based on quality of evidenced based data, contribution to the field and visual presentation.
TNP supports member research initiatives. Opportunities to conduct research are available online and at TNP Annual and Specialty Conferences. The researcher must submit the form below at least 30 days before the start of their proposed research project. Validation of the research proposal will be made by TNP members designated by the President of TNP. In addition, the researcher must disclose how the research is going to be utilized and the data will be protected.
After review of the material the designated TNP committee will decide if the proposal is accepted. The following will determine whether the proposal will be accepted:
- The research must be designed to treat all individuals fairly and the procedure must be based on fair procedures that will not overburden the TNP participants.
- The researcher must insure that all participants clearly understand the commitments in the agreement to participate in the study.
- The researcher receives confirmation from TNP to collect the data.
- Provide proof of IRB approval prior to research being conducted.
- The research proposal has appropriate tools for the research setting.
- The research is found to reflect quality that is consistent with TNP standards.
- This research is to further individual research/project needs not institutional, organization or company initiatives.
Administrative fees of $100.00 for current TNP members whether is it done through an online survey or conducted at a TNP meeting. Any additional costs associated with conducting the research will be the responsibility of the researcher. TNP will provide an approval letter to conduct the study for the researcher and invoicing as appropriate.
Permissions to conduct the research is at the discretion of the TNP Research Taskforce. Coordination and scheduling for research requests and sending out the on-line link to survey participants is at the discretion of the TNP CEO so there is no interruption in TNP business activities. A maximum of two emails will be sent on behalf of the researcher to TNP members. Upon approval, TNP will work with the researcher to create a general timeline of expectations.
At the conclusion of the study, the researcher will provide an executive summary to be published in the TNP Pulse and website.
Texas Nurse Practitioner Foundation (TNPF) is organized exclusively for charitable, educational, and scientific purposes, including, for such purposes, the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or corresponding section of any future federal tax code.
Specifically, the goals of this Foundation shall be to:
1. Distribute Resources – Provide financial resources that advance the Nurse Practitioner profession, including but not limited to:
a. providing scholarships for registered nurses who are pursuing further education to become nurse practitioners;
b. providing financial assistance for nurse practitioners pursuing an advanced nursing degree;
c. awarding grants to nurse practitioners proposing or engaged in research, that is relevant to advanced nursing professions;
d. awarding grants to community projects promoting and improving access to health care for all Texans;
e. serving as a collaborative partner to organizations with similar missions and goals;
f. awarding funding, as available, to organizations promoting continuing education that support the nurse practitioner professions; and
g. providing short-term, immediate financial assistance to eligible Texas Nurse Practitioner members who are victims of a disaster due to fire, flood, accidents, or other disasters.
2. Develop Resources – build the financial resources needed to support the advancement of the Nurse Practitioner profession.
3. Promote Professional Awareness – Promote public awareness of the Nurse Practitioner role.
4. Support Foundation Sustainability – Maintain the leadership and systems necessary for long-term growth and success of the Foundation.
5. Enhance partnerships between the professional association, community partners, and the Foundation.
6. Engage in any legal activity approved by the board that supports the mission of TNPF.
In alignment with this purpose, TNPF has developed a Research Support Grant program to help fund open access for research conducted by TNP members in peer review journals which is relevant to advanced practice nursing, promotes access to health care for all Texans and/or promotes public awareness of the Nurse Practitioner role. TNP members who wish to apply for a Research Support Grant, must complete an application.
